The Alfred University Bergren Forum is sponsored by the Division of Human Studies, The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the Provost’s Office. For the time being all presentations will be virtual, on Zoom, between 12:10 and 1:00 on Thursday December 2nd. We will go back to in-person forums once the university is sufficiently safe.

Amanda Taylor Lipnicki, “Soft Calculus”

Crochet is a textile art for creating fabric by interlocking loops of yarn using a hook.  Assoc. Prof of Mathematics Amanda Taylor Lipnicki will illustrate how math, including calculus, can be applied to design crochet patterns.  The talk will be framed for a general audience with no knowledge of calculus or crochet.
