Sorry, Postponed until Fall. AOH Irish Road Bowling

June 8, 2019 @ 10:30 am - 3:30 pm

Reclaiming a bit of their Celtic ancestry, the sons and daughters of Irish descent will be tossing a bowl down Kilbane Road Saturday, when the Allegany County Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Div. 1 hosts its seventh annual Irish Road Bowling Classic.

One of the founders of the local event, Brian Cannon, explained, “Road bowling is an Irish sport in which competitors attempt to take the fewest throws to propel a 28 ounce, metal ball along a 1.2 mile course, usually along a country road.”

“Our course is on Kilbane Road in Andover. It is named after Paul Kilbane’s family who came here from Ireland in the 1840s,” he said. “It is a 1.2 mile, undulating course that is straight. It takes about 90 minutes for a team of two to play.”
