Hoodie Hoo Day 2020
Hoodie Hoo Day 2020
Shongo: The fourth annual “Hoodie Hoo Day” is sponsored by Allegany Trails, Inc. and Mama’a Smokin BBQ Restaurant in Shongo. The restaurant is on the corner of Graves Road and NYS 19 in the Town of Willing just south of Wellsville. The event will be from 11 to 2 on Saturday, February 15, 2020. We will celebrate Hoodie Hoo Day at Noon sharp. Come help us “DRIVE WINTER AWAY” and have some fun. We expect to host this event at this location for years to come. It is an easy drive by car from Wellsville. Hoodie Hoo Day, now celebrated in the Northern Hemisphere and as far away as New Zealand, was started by Betty Tomack in the Gold, PA, General Store (now closed) some 28 years ago. The event is still near the Genesee River, just moved downstream into southern Allegany County, NY.
Mary Bailey and Mike Edwards own and operate the “Mama’s Smokin BBQ.” They purchased the restaurant in Shongo and opened up “Mama’s Smokin BBQ” in May 2015. Last year Mike and Mary rebuilt their restaurant after a fire destroyed it. Come and check out their new larger restaurant with lots of room and parking.
Allegany Trails was organized in 2000. The address for the not-for-profit corporation is: Allegany Trails, Inc., PO Box 66, Wellsville, NY 14895. Their mission is to develop and operate a network of trails and trail-heads in and about Allegany County, NY. The corporation sponsors free events like this one. Bill Dibble, from Little Genesee, NY 14754, is President.
This year’s celebration will include free chili with cornbread, tea, and coffee. Other food is available in the restaurant. Country and Blue Grass Music by “Genesee River Ramblers” will start at 11:00 a.m. Come, enjoy, and have fun.
For those who ride horses to the Hoodie Hoo event, a hitching post is on the West side of the restaurant.
It is about eight (8) miles from Wellsville south to the event in Shongo. Remember to watch your time and be there before the event. To get there you travel on NYS Route 19, you pass through Standards, past Jack Bridge Road, County Road 29 (Yorks Corners), and then reach Graves Road. The above restaurant will be on your right (Northwest corner of the intersection of Route 19 and Graves Road). If you get to Hawks Road and the Genesee River you went a little too far south.
Location: GPS Coordinates for the event are: 42 1’ 29” N – 77 53 ’56” W
For more information, call the Wellsville Chamber at 585-593-5080 or the restaurant at 585-296-3848 and ask for Mary or Mike. See you there on the 15th.
Save the date: Next year’s Hoodie Hoo Day will be February 13, 2021.
