Nuyorican: Joann Quinones Opening Reception
March 3, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
During the height of Puerto Rican migration to the United States, mostly during the 1950s and 1960’s, a new term came about to describe those of this Diaspora – Nuyorican.
Originally meant to be an insult, the term was reclaimed by a generation of artists, poets, and social activists living in New York as a way of addressing the intricacies of a new, hybrid identity. In this show, Assistant Professor of Sculpture, Joann Quiñones, pairs poetry by Nuyorican poets with their own mixed media works, to highlight a queer, Afro-Latinx identity.
On View through April 30, 2022
