Shongo, NY: The fourth annual “Hoodie Hoo Day” is sponsored by Allegany Trails, Inc. and the Whitesville Corner Market. The event will be from 11 to 2 on Saturday, February 16th, 2019. We will celebrate Hoodie Hoo Day at Noon sharp. Come help us “DRIVE WINTER AWAY” and have some fun. Due to the fire at Mama’s Smokin BBQ last year in Shongo, Hoodie Hoo Day will be at this location for one year only. It is an easy drive by car from Wellsville or Hornell. Hoodie Hoo Day, now celebrated in the Northern Hemisphere and as far away as New Zealand, was started by Betty Tomack in the Gold, PA General Store (now closed) some 26 years ago. The event is still near the Genesee River, just moved downstream into southern Allegany County, NY.
Ann Teller owns and operates the “Whitesville Corner Market” and restaurant. Ann purchased the 1913 Red and White Store and remodeled it into her restaurant. You will find it to be a really neat place and one where you find good food and conversation.
Allegany Trails was organized in 2000. The address for the not-for-profit corporation is: Allegany Trails, Inc., PO Box 66, Wellsville, NY 14895. Their mission is to develop and operate a network of trails and trail-heads in and about Allegany County, NY. The corporation sponsors free events like this one. Bill Dibble, from Little Genesee, NY 14754, is President.
This years celebration will include free chili with cornbread, tea and coffee. Other food is available in the restaurant. Country Music, by Richard “Dick” Pensel, will start at 11:00 AM. Come, enjoy and have fun.
From Wellsville, take Rt 19 South to Stannards, turn left and take NYS Rt 248 to the hamlet of Whitesville, NY. You will find the restaurant, 452 Main Street, on the North side of Main Street, NYS Rt 248. The above restaurant will be on your left. Remember to watch your time and be there before the event.
For more information, call the Greater Allegany County Chamber of Commerce at 585-268-7190 or the restaurant at 607-356-3242 and ask for Ann. See you there on the 16th
NOTE: The 2020 Hoodie Hoo Day will be held at the new “Mama’s Smokin BBQ” in Shongo, NY.
