September 21 & 22 is Cuba’s Garlic Festival!
August 8, 2019
Do you love to cook with garlic? Are you a garlic grower? How about a connoisseur of anything flavored with garlic? What about some interestingly-themed handmade crafts with a garlic incorporated design? If you love “the bulb of the Gods” for any reason, you will find your next favorite garlic item somewhere on the grounds of the Cuba Garlic Festival at Empire City Farms in the village.
Garlic Festival even has a royal court that leads them. There is the King and Queen, and all of their little bulbs, who travel the area as media representatives of the festival. They dress in fancy velvet-caped outfits complete with their headdress and of course a garlic-topped walking staff. The bulbs are just that, dressed as garlic bulbs, complete with some trailing scapes. During the festival you will see them travelling the grounds. Don’t hesitate to stop and ask them any questions you may have about the festival or garlic—and feel free to take a selfie or two with them too!!
This is the 15th year of the ever-growing popular festival. It is a perfect complement to the world-famous Cuba Cheese that the town still manufactures today, and you will find them represented at the festival as well. Stop by at their booth to sample some of the many varieties of cheese, including their garlic cheese curds—a popular local favorite.
There are demonstrations on growing and braiding garlic, demonstrations by local professional Chefs on how to use garlic in some fantastic recipes, and of course, there are several vendors of all kinds of garlic and garlic products. You will find dilled garlic and garlic scapes; there will be black garlic offerings, soup bases with garlic, dried garlic spices, and even pickled garlic cloves for snacking. One section of vendors is that of a farmer’s market where you will find in-season fresh produce to purchase and take home along with the garlic you’ll most likely purchase to try one of those dishes you saw prepared at one of the demonstrations.
There are contests too for the best bulb grower, and for the homemade wine competition.
The 15th Annual Cuba Garlic Festival runs from September 21 (10AM- 6PM)
through September 22 (10AM-5PM). Admission cost per-person is $7 at the Gate/$5 Pre-Sale. Parking is FREE.
