This show, organized by the Arts Council of Wyoming County (ACWC), features art made specifically for the show by artists living in Allegany and Wyoming counties and is meant to bring awareness to the mental health challenges that are prevalent in rural communities. The show was first on display in May at the ACWC Gallery in Perry and has since been traveling around the region.
The Rural Arts Road Show is modeled after a project in Australia’s rural Tasmanian area, which, like Wyoming and Allegany Counties, has a high rate of social isolation, suicide, and depression. A mental health facilitator will be present during the opening reception to facilitate discussions about mental illness/wellness that may be brought up by the art on display.
